Decent work, worth striving for

Having a bad day? You’re not alone. Seven out of ten of your peers are also having a bad day at work.

In my life, I can think of at least three times when an accumulation of bad days has started me re-considering my commitment to my employer.

You start thinking “Is it worth all this effort?”, “Could there be something more enjoyable?” . I’ve also had the thought “People all around me are treated with disrespect.” And that realisation leads to an emotional disconnection from the organisation and the ‘way things are done around here’.

Savvy employers are fully cognizant of this risk to their business. They’re also aware of its positive flipside – 50 years of research from companies like Gallup shows that engaged employees produce better business outcomes – across industry, size and nationality of the business and in good times and bad.

This is what gets me excited about the work we do at Transformed Teams – I am personally convinced of the power of great work to bring unexpected rewards.

Steve Jobs said: “The only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.”

John Maxwell said: “We were created for meaningful work, and one of life’s greatest satisfactions is a job well done.”

And Theodore Roosevelt said: “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”

Great workplaces consist of great teams, built on a foundation of trust. These teams follow the disciplines of great communication and accountability. They work together towards a clear set of team goals.

For nearly eight years now, we have been creating win-win workplaces, where employers and employees both enjoy better outcomes, through a great Workplace Experience

If you follow the Sustainable Development Goals, we’re aligned with no. 8: Decent work and economic growth. We are all about creating that alignment between employer and employees – a state of work where there is interest, commitment, even passion.

Trust issues, lack of motivation, disinterest, a ‘heard it all before’ attitude and people turning up to work, to just play the game, with minimal interest and barely involved…. This is not great work and no one puts in extra effort to create that kind of workplace.

If you’re preparing to make your workplace or workspaces more flexible or collaborative, let’s talk about what you need to do to create a great Workplace Experience – decent work, that is worth striving for. Schedule an Information Call today to find out more.
